If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve already registered for the AANP certification exam and received your Eligibility to Test email. First of all—congratulations! That’s a huge milestone. You’ve completed your program, survived clinicals, and now it’s time to schedule your exam and prepare for test day.
Here’s everything I wish someone had clearly explained to me after registering. Use this guide to stay on track and avoid unnecessary stress.
How to Schedule Your Exam
Once you receive the “Eligibility to Test and Schedule Exam” email from AANPCB, here’s what to do:
- Log in to your AANPCB account: www.aanpcert.org/signin
- Click on “Schedule Exam” under My AANPCB
- Follow the instructions to book your appointment through Prometric
- Choose a date within your 120-day window from the date the email was sent
Tip: Check your spam/junk folder if you don’t see the email right away.
Need to Reschedule or Cancel?
If you need to make changes to your scheduled test date, Prometric allows rescheduling or cancellation—but timing matters.
- Cancel or reschedule at least 31 days in advance = no extra fee
- Changes made within 30 days = a fee will apply
- Changes within 24 hours = not allowed
Make all changes through: www.prometric.com
Heads-up: New rescheduling/cancellation policies will take effect July 1, 2025. Be sure to review the updated policy on the Prometric site if you’re testing around that time.
Requesting an Extension (Life Happens)
If a hardship keeps you from testing within your 120-day window, you can request a one-time extension.
Here’s how:
- Cancel your current appointment (if one is scheduled)
- Email your request to: certification@aanpcert.org
- If approved, you’ll get a 60-day extension
Important: If you don’t test within the extension period, you’ll lose your fees and have to reapply.
Want to Withdraw from the Exam?
If you’ve had a change in plans and don’t want to take the exam:
- Submit a written request to withdraw to certification@aanpcert.org
- If you haven’t scheduled a test and your 120-day window hasn’t expired, you’ll receive a refund minus a processing fee
- Refunds are usually processed within 30 days
Requesting Special Accommodations
Prometric testing centers comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and can provide reasonable accommodations.
Steps to request special accommodations:
- Complete the Special Accommodations Request Form on the Prometric site
- Upload documentation supporting your request
- Do not schedule your exam until Prometric has contacted you and confirmed the accommodations
You should hear back from Prometric’s Special Accommodations Team within 3–5 business days after submitting your request.

Here’s a quick recap of key takeaways:
- You get 120 days to schedule and sit for your exam
- Cancel/reschedule more than 31 days out to avoid fees
- You can request an extension if needed, but only once
- Withdrawals must be requested in writing
- Special accommodations require pre-approval before scheduling
You’re so close to the finish line. You’ve already done the hard work—now it’s just about checking the boxes and staying focused.
